My Meeting with MS AMMA

Written by M A Parthasarathy

Once I had the opportunity to meet MS Amma.

My cousin sisters are Carnatic music singers and I had given them a photo of MS taken by me. Once one of my sisters met MS and took her autograph on the photo I had taken. MS asked my sister who took it and commented that is a good photo. My sister was so thrilled and told me this.

That was the time when Shri Sadhasivam had passed away. So I decided to gift MS Amma a photo of her and Shri Sadhasivam and fixed an appointment.

When I told my wife Anu Parthasarathy that I will be meeting MS she was thrilled and wanted to accompany me. Hearing this my mother-in-law also joined us. We went in the afternoon to meet her and MS Amma with her divine radiant smile received us and offered us some fruits and Bournvita. She was so humble, down to earth, simple and gave us a warm welcome. She was very happy to receive the framed photo and was lost in thoughts for few minutes.

My wife took her blessings and we were just chatting for few mins when MS Amma asked my wife if she sings. My mother-in-law jumped with pride and said oh yes I have sent her to singing class and she has learned singing. Hearing this MS Amma asked my wife to sing a song and you should have seen my wife’s face… She was so scared of singing in front of MS Amma and she was shivering ??

MS Amma smiled and said everyone should sing Bagavans nama and I alone should not be the one singing. Such was her greatness!

I asked her why she was not doing any concerts like before and she said “After the demise of Shri Sadhasivam I am not able to sing on stage. He was my mentor and motivator. Without him sitting in the front row I am not able sing. He was my key”, she said.

Once again my wife took her blessings and we left. That time we did not know that my wife was pregnant. We were blessed to have Divine blessings from a great soul.

With my little experience, I have seen many celebrities and politicians but none can be compared to this lady. The amount of charities she has done is unbelievable. She did not keep anything for herself and gifted all her earnings for good causes.

Even after 22 years, I remember every minute of our meeting with her.
